Finding Love

A lthough a few of my cousins had opted for love marriages, it was a surprise to my family when I chose my husband, as I met him on the Internet through a dating site. It was the summer of 2000 and I was in Pune, studying for MCA. The annual exams had just gotten over and all of us were leaving for home for a month-long vacation.  

Many people across the world don't mind spending Valentine's Day with their loved pets, a new study has found. A total of 24,000 people in 23 countries were quizzed in the poll. It was found that 49 percent of residents in Turkey want to spend the special day with an animal over a partner or spouse, while at least 10 percent of the French plan to do the same.  

The success of 'love at first email' continues to be questionable, with experts arguing the benefits and pitfalls of matchmaking with web services. Research showed that online dating can be misleading since people often tend to provide inaccurate information about themselves in their profiles. Nicole Ellison, an assistant professor in the Department of Telecommunication, Information Studies and Media at Michigan State University, and team found that "most people lie about at least one characteristic", ...  

Leave it to the Coen brothers to slip in seemingly unannounced. "A Serious Man" had little fanfare when it hit theaters in the fall; now it's an Oscar-nominated best picture. Not that the brothers are a mystery to Oscar voters; they took home the best picture award two years ago for "No Country for Old Men." But that doesn't mean that their films aren't mysteries to film audiences and even staunch fans.

Valentine's Day is supposed to be all about love and passion, but those good vibes can quickly turn to disappointment when the bills arrive. Flowers, chocolates, dinner and jewelry can add up pretty quickly, and while it may get you mad points in the romance department, it ain't helping your bottom line. But it doesn't have to be that way.  

The Chinese Valentine's Day is celebrated on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month in the Chinese calendar. There is an interesting love story behind this day about the 7th daughter of Emperor of Heaven and an orphaned cowherd. The Emperor played spoilsport and separated both of them.
